The Choate School Book Store Wallingford, CT
This project involved the complete renovation at the Choate Rosemary Hall Student Book Store. The existing HVAC air handling unit remained but the system was reconfigured by adding a heating coil to the ductwork to eliminate the baseboard radiation. All the ductwork was modified to be exposed. The lighting was completely upgraded to have focused merchandise lighting and specialty high efficient fluorescent lighting for retail applications. The work was planned and managed to be done during a brief store shutdown. Existing equipment was re-used for cost savings but was modified to improve performance. To resolve space considerations the ductwork was exposed but reconfigured and moved out of the center of the room to give the feeling of more space. Special grilles were used that were mounted directly on the round ductwork and do not require a “boot” or a duct extension of any kind.
