This project involved the complete mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection design for this multi-function community space that connects and serves two large housing towers managed by the Willimantic Housing Authority. The addition is approximately 6,500 square feet, with a Dining Room and Serving Area, All Purpose Room, Offices and Toilet Rooms. There were several challenges involved with this project.

The two towers shared some services, such as emergency power, while other services from the existing towers were used to feed the addition. This required careful coordination and an understanding of the existing buildings systems. The existing electrical service for the John Ashton Towers was relocated to make room for the addition and changed to an underground service with a new pad mounted transformer.

The two buildings being connected were at different elevations. The addition has several complex shapes to integrate it into the landscape and connect the two buildings. The MEP design had to work with these shapes while maintaining a housing authority budget. Baseboard radiation follows radius walls and ductwork is either exposed or concealed in coordinated soffits.
