Celentano School
Additions & Alterations, New Haven, CT
This project entailed the construction of an 80,000 square foot K-8 school for the City of New Haven Public Schools Department. All but 6,000 square feet of the existing Celentano School was demolished to make way for the new building. The school has been designed to meet all of the United Illuminating Company's Energy Incentive Programs.
The mechanical systems were completely renovated and updated. Some of the changes included a new four-pipe hydronic distribution system fed from gas fired cast iron boilers and high efficiency water-cooled chillers. Fan coil units feed hot water & chilled water from the hydronic system and fresh air comes from heat recovery make-up air units to serve the classrooms. Electric systems were also updated and included occupancy sensors in order to control classroom lighting and fan coil unit operation.
